I remember the time when Gino and I graduated as practical nurses in Finland, and our classmates were busy looking for stable jobs here and there. As for me, I was offered a 50% work contract for a year in an institution in Vaasa. However, the salary that I was earning was never a guarantee to sustain my expenses of living. I needed to find a more stable work. So, my friends and I decided to look for work in the “big city”, Helsinki, a few hours drive from Vaasa.
Gino, on the other hand, was working as a personal assistant and was earning substantially enough. He knew that if we were offered a job, we would not hesitate to take it and move. So he decided to join us and applied for the job, too. And let fate do its work.
To make the long story short, both of us got a permanent job on the same institution. And we have been working on that same place for over 3 years now. We were inseparable ever since. We are both working as practical nurses on the same building but on different departments, and we don’t often see each other at work. We are fortunate enough to say our hellos and goodbyes everyday without being totally apart. How cool is that?
Let me share with you the cool things I have experienced with working on the same place with Gino.

1. We can ask for the same schedule.
For the past two years, we have been having the same shifts, day offs and vacation leave almost 90% of the time. And boy, our bosses are the coolest. They even apologized when one of our schedules were not the same. I guess we are blessed that our bosses are the kindest people; they know prioritizing life outside work is as important as our work itself.
2. He brings me food anytime.
Literally anytime. I can sometimes grab some of the treats his department is getting, and so does he. Well of course, with consent from our co-workers.
3. He understands.
I get to voice out anything about work. From complaints to achievements, he understands and gains a better picture of it in his head. I even acquire advice from him if I did something wrong or needs some improvement in my work. We do feel unmotivated to work at times, yet we motivate each other to continue.
4. I get extra help.
I remember a time when I wasn’t feeling well while at work but I needed to finish a task I started before leaving. What he did was, he went to my department and helped me finish those tasks. We get to share ideas about the work itself. Whenever I am not familiar with a new system in our work place, Gino is there to teach me before hand. So I at least have an idea about it before I will be taught by my co-workers.
5. We gossip together.
This may sound unacceptable but hear me first. This is when we get silly updates about our workplace as a whole. It’s just me and my boyfriend getting to laugh, stalk and gossip about silly and ridiculous things about work. It’s him being my bff at work where we share stuff that only the two of us know.
I just love our present work life and love being with him on the same work place. How about you? Are you currently working on the same place with your boyfriend. Or have you experienced working with someone dear to you? What are your reflections on this? Leave your thoughts on the comment section below. 🙂
